Friday Foodie

July 19, 2013

Since my last post I've had two job interviews; one went OK but they're not offering enough for us to cover our bills and daycare costs, and the other misled me into thinking they were offering an office admin or customer service job while it was actually a door to door canvassing position that was commission based. Ugh. I wouldn't have wasted my time and money going all the way into Victoria for that if they'd been straight with me from the start.

To make up for the disappointment and frustration of that interview yesterday morning, a giant tote of premium groceries appeared at my door just in time for dinner, a gift from a friend of mine in Australia. The food didn't come from Aussie-land, but from Spud, a local delivery service of sustainable produce for Vancouver Island. It was like Christmas; lots of fresh fruits and veggies, some dried goods like pasta and rice, delicious bacon and chicken, and a few 'extras' like coffee, tea and chocolate, with the added bonus of all of it being organic (in the 'non-chemical fertilizers or pesticide' sense, not the 'well duh EVERYTHING IS ORGANIC because SCIENCE!' sense). Delicious foody goodness is now filling my fridge and pantry to nearly overflowing and that means we can save some of this money for future bills. Dinner last night was simple but good, like most of the food I make, and it was eaten with both gusto and gratitude. The way my friends have been stepping up with encouragement, comfort and yes, even groceries, has been heartwarming to say the least. They might all live in my computer but every time I open my fridge, pantry or computer, I feel less alone.
