Lessons in Running #1

February 27, 2013

Some mornings I walk Gabe to school. Most afternoons I also walk him home. 90% of the time I have Kat with me in her stroller, so we're really just strollin' along. Often Gabe wants to play tag which as you can imagine is difficult with a stroller but I try and we have a really fun time.

This morning there was no stroller so when we played tag I kicked his butt! I used to be a fair short-distance runner but it's been a long time since I've done a 100m dash,  probably 20 years. Oh great, now I feel old. Anyway! I had a blast and so did he and he wasn't late for school which is always good.

On the way back I decided to test myself a bit and see if I could indeed run if I wasn't being chased by something and set myself a goal of probably 25m, maybe a bit less. I did it and then walked a bit, then did it again, and then I was home. Cool. Things I learned today:

  • Don't run with your cellphone in an open pocket. It will fall out and smash on the sidewalk. (Thankfully it's not broken!)
  • Get a really good sports bra. Ow.
  • Good shoes are important but the ones I have will do for now.
  • Setting goals is important.

What goals have you got on the horizon right now?
