Feminist Friday~Womanifesto

January 18, 2013

Via The Nearsighted Owl (check her out in my Good Reads section!) I found the Militant Baker and her Womanifesto challenge. What's a Womanifesto? Jess defines it as: A written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives, and views of its female author. May include themes of empowerment, independence, self love, consciousness, affirmation, and individual acceptance; your positive beliefs about yourself. Created to give self-described definition in regards to the innate beauty inside of every woman. Yes, even you.

I enjoy a challenge, so here goes!

Intentions: Walk in balance with myself, honouring all of Me; my mind, body, spirit and heart, and with the earth, honouring Her cycles, spaces and creatures. My intent is to do Good, to protect what I can, cherish all that is and empower others towards the same. My privileges will be another person's sword and shield. I will be an ally to those who need one. Through my writing my intent is to highlight the normality of being fat and destroy the false negative narrative surrounding fat people.

Motives: I seek peace, always. My motivations are joy and happiness, equality, pleasure and love, for all peoples everywhere. In my desire to achieve these goals I seek to be heard, both online and off, through my voice and writing. These are my greatest strengths and I will use them to manifest my intentions.

Views:  Noone is more or less than anyone else, though I recognize that we all come from varied and intersecting oppressions and privileges. I am a feminist, Wiccan, mother and wife; these things inform and colour all that I say and do. All people, including myself, have the right to live, work, birth, love and die in the manner of their choosing, so long as they are not hurting anyone else. This includes the right to not be judged by my size or gender and sex, despite the current hegemonic climate. I strongly believe in the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Earth is our Mother and there is but One Creator, though It appears to all in the manner which will be best accepted by each individual. We have a responsibility to each other and to our planet to take care-with each other and with ourselves.

I love myself totally, mind, body, soul and heart. I am a good mother, friend, wife and priestess, and I am more than simply the sum of these parts. I am fierce, both stronger and weaker than I know, with a deep well to draw upon as needed. I learn from my mistakes and accept the hard lessons as they come.

I will be content with what I have and count my blessings. I will be patient with myself, husband, children and friends because they deserve it and I love them, and myself. I will forgive myself and those around me when we have bad days, hours or moments. I will be kind to myself and accept this body whatever it does over the years. Like the Earth itself, it is ever changing and has been through a lot. Time passes and what's between my ears is so much more valuable than what size bra I wear.

This is my Womanifesto. I declare Peace on you!
